Biography

Jonathan specialises in Clinical Negligence (Medical Negligence). He oversees a variety of complex claims, regularly of high value, involving various aspects of medical treatment, including delayed and missed diagnosis, surgical errors, medication errors, neglect, falls, imaging errors, and injuries causing death.

Jonathan has extensive experience in wide-ranging areas of medical claims, including gynaecology and gynaecological surgery, obstetrics, oncology, orthopaedics, renal medicine, hepatobiliary claims including gallbladder surgery and gallstone removal, bowel surgery including resection and stoma, GP medicine, neurology, and neurosurgery.

Jonathan also undertakes a large amount of PHH Solicitor’s Coroner’s inquest work. He assists and represents bereaved families with inquests as part of investigating potential negligence claims.

Having joined PHH Solicitors in 2015, Jonathan has previous experience in the administration of estates (probate), Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, Court of Protection, and conveyancing. His experience in probate law assists his medical negligence practice when representing bereaved families, with his experience in powers of attorney and mental capacity assisting in claims where the injured party may not be able to act for themselves.

Previous cases include:

  • Securing a multi-million-pound settlement in a highly complex neurology-related claim, involving 14 separate experts, in the High Court.
  • Securing six-figure damages in an orthopaedic hip surgery claim involving the negligent repair of a femur fracture.
  • Securing significant sum in orthopaedic claim following a fall suffered shortly after a knee surgery with epidural.
  • Recovering six figure settlement in a delayed diagnosis of lung cancer claim, where expert imaging evidence showed that abnormalities had been apparent for a number of years, where acting for the executor of the estate and dependent claimants.
  • Successfully reaching a six-figure settlement in a claim concerning the failure to act upon histology taken after surgery, which had identified cancer, leading to a long delay in diagnosis and treatment, where acting for the executor of the estate and dependents.
  • Successfully reaching significant settlement in a claim concerning the delayed diagnosis of bowel cancer leading to significant surgery, permanent stoma, and orthopaedic consequences.
  • Securing significant damages in a case concerning the delayed diagnosis and treatment of cancer over many months in a GP setting, leading to complex injuries, including a permanent stoma.
  • Securing a settlement in a complex claim involving multiple defendants concerning the negligent management of a patient after complicated gallbladder surgery, leading to sepsis, laparotomy, herniation, and repair surgery.
  • Representing a bereaved family at a multi-day inquest, where the verdict reached was unlawful killing in a care home setting.
  • Successfully securing damages in several claims concerning injuries suffered during childbirth, variously involving episiotomy, lack of informed consent, and high-degree tears.

Jonathan holds a degree in law with philosophy and a master’s degree in legal practice.

In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his family, almost any sport, gardening, and walking his golden retriever, Teddy, who can sometimes be found sleeping in a quiet corner of his office.
